Going to the Hospital by Mister Rogers

Title: Going to the Hospital

Author: Dr. Fred Rogers

My Take on this Title:

For younger children (2-6 years) and recommended by Children’s Department Librarian at Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh. A Mister Rogers classic!

If it’s got Mister Rogers name on it, you know it is going to be great. This little book is equally delightful and tells the facts in simple and clear terms. Although it’s from 1988 (and has a fun photo of Pittsburgh’s Children’s Hospital way back when), and the photos are a real throwback, it’s a wonderful book that help walk a child through all the most important aspects of what it’s like to go to the hospital. This book is geared towards when the child is going to the hospital, but is equally useful for the types of equipment and rooms and scenes that a child would see if visiting an adult in the hospital.
I especially like how he shares that it’s ok to eat a meal in bed in the hospital even though we may not do this at home, and how you have different clothes and use certain equipment that is special to a hospital.
