Being Mortal

Title: Being Mortal: Medicine and What Matters in the End

Author: Atul Gawande, MD

My Take on this Title:

In “Being Mortal,” Dr. Gawande tackles the hardest challenge of his profession: how medicine can not only improve life but also the process of its ending. Now, although, I am open to learning more about all aspects of life (it’s beginning, middle and end), I found that Dr. Gawande’s book was most useful in describing the real, and detailed, process of aging and what to prepare for (and, many times, accept) as we age or if we are caring for a parent, grandparent or other elder.

I found that this book contains what all physicians know through training and experience, but what lay people aren’t really aware of in a real, tangible way. This book can help anyone prepare for living longer, living better and understanding the natural process.
